When you start freelancing, you might not hit six figures immediately and that is completely okay.

And before you ask why that’s okay, I want to share a bit of my story.

I didn’t hit six figures back when I was freelancing. I have no flashy numbers to show and no freedom screenshots to share with the world.

Freelancing worked for me, but I did it differently. My top priority was survival because I became a single parent. I did freelance work both offline and online.

Before the money even landed in my pocket, I already knew where it was going:

  • Emergency fund

  • Groceries

  • Bills

  • Savings

  • Investments

  • Insurance

Everything was allocated before I started spending.

That gave me stability because I focused on handling my money properly.

Treating yourself when you get paid is fine. But if you spend without a plan, you are basically saying sorry to your future self instead of thank you.

One rule I always followed was not showing my earnings to anyone.

Why? You never know whose eyes you are attracting.

My advice is simple.

Always be ahead of time when it comes to finances. Save something for your future self instead of chasing six figures. Start small and stay consistent.

Sometimes freelancing isn’t about getting rich.

Sometimes it’s about surviving and doing it well.
